We want to welcome all our readers on the new SmartRM blog. This is our first blog so we just want to introduce SmartRM, our developing team and share some views about our strategy and dreams.

I’m Filippo Chiariglione, I’m 33 and I recently completed my Ph.D in Computer Science at Politecnico di Torino. My email is filippo@smartrm.com. 2 year ago I co-founded SmartRM along with Cedeo, my father’s company, Sinapsi, an open source company led by Giacomo Cosenza and Dpixel, a seed stage VC fund.

Since the founding I put up what I belive is a great development team. My teammates are:
- Alberto Aresca, a recent computer science grad who’s responsbile for GUI and client (alberto@smartrm.com)
- Angelo Difino, an experienced developer who’s leading the work on C++ (angelo@smartrm.com)
- Emiliano Leporati who’s helping Angelo on the C++ side (emiliano@smartrm.com)

We’re now adding few people on the team and we’ll get back soon with more updated profile.

So, what is SmartRM?
It’s an open source (will be), interoperable, DRM platform. You’ll be able to share your content (MS Office files, video, pictures, music) keeping the distribution and property rights on the file itself. We belive that current “open” framework is not the best solution for Internet development and the issue of protecting each one’s personal documents is an untapped “market pain” (oh gosh, I write in the “VC language”!!!)

We are developing our product on the MPEG 21 standard, a standard which is natively interoperable and which will be readable/playable on several platform. We’ll dig a lot on this.
